Deputy Board Chair: Malcolm Gray AM said that the Board was looking forward to working with Glen in his new role. Malcolm stressed that Glen’s interest in the CEO role had been assessed in a very rigorous and thorough way, with a Board Sub-committee working closely with an external search company over the past few months.
“The Board is greatly indebted to Craig Bennett for his outstanding leadership of Diabetes Victoria over nine years,” Malcolm said. “Craig is highly regarded in both Victoria and nationally and has consistently provided wise and considered advice to the Board and others on strategic and operational issues – particularly during our response to the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years.”
“Glen’s appointment will provide both stability and continuity,” Malcolm continued. “Under his leadership, Diabetes Victoria will remain focused on supporting people affected by, or at risk of, diabetes in our response to National Diabetes Services Scheme changes, as we pursue commercial opportunities and as we move forward after two years in and out of lockdown.”
Glen said that having a son who lives with diabetes had originally motivated him to join the Diabetes Victoria Board in 2011. Since then, he’s become more and more involved with the diabetes cause, representing Diabetes Victoria on the Diabetes Australia Board and chairing the Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee.
“I have been enormously impressed with Craig’s work on behalf of all Victorians affected by, or at risk of, diabetes for a long time now and am very keen to build on his great work,” Glen said. “I’m grateful that there will be time for a detailed handover before Craig and his wife, Rosemary, move to London to be with their two daughters.”
Malcolm confirmed that Glen would remain as President of Diabetes Victoria until June and that a decision about a new President, as well as Diabetes Victoria’s representative on the Diabetes Australia Board, will be made in due course.
