These research scholarships honour Emeritus Professor Trisha Dunning AM – a long-serving Board Director of Diabetes Victoria, who sadly died on Thursday 14 October.

Trisha was a leading nurse, diabetes clinician, qualitative methods researcher and educator, with an international profile and reputation. Trisha published widely and was acknowledged as an expert on diabetes management and care guidelines – particularly for older people and people receiving palliative or end-of-life care. Trisha was also passionate about diabetes language. Trisha was a significant contributor to many other organisations, such as the International Diabetes Federation, Diabetes Australia, the Australian Diabetes Educators Association, Deakin University and Barwon Health, among others.

Shortly before she died, Trisha was advised that Diabetes Victoria would be awarding two talented nursing researchers inaugural scholarships bearing her name. Trisha was delighted and wished them all the best with their studies.
