Food supplement trial

Researchers at Monash Medical Centre want to find out if Carnosine, an over-the-counter food supplement, used to enhance exercise capacity in athletes can also help to improve blood glucose levels, reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease and improve cognitive function as well as identify the metabolic pathways involved.

Who can participate?

The study will involve up to 5 visits to Monash Clayton over a period of 16 weeks.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes
  • managed with diet or Metformin
  • Aged 18 to 70 years

 For your participation, you will receive:

  • Free assessment of your diabetes and cardiovascular risk
  • $100 visa card or gift card of your choice
