Steak with Sweet Mash
Recipe
This Steak with Sweet Mash is a deliciously savory and sweet combination! Sirloin steaks are seared to perfection and topped with caramelized Medjool dates, adding a rich, sweet contrast to the savory meat. Served alongside creamy mashed sweet potato, this dish is a hearty, flavorful meal that balances tender steak with a touch of natural sweetness from the dates. A simple yet satisfying dinner, perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients
- 4 x 200g sirloin steaks
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 10 Medjool dates, pitted and quartered
- 2 cups (650g) mashed sweet potato
Method
1. Brush the steaks with oil and season with cracked pepper. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium / high heat before adding the steak (this seals the surface, trapping in juices). Cook a 2cm thick piece of steak for 2 to 3 minutes each side for rare, 4 minutes each side for medium, and 5 to 6 minutes each side for well-done, turning the steak only once, otherwise it will dry out.
2. When done, remove and cover with foil. Rest for 3 minutes, allowing time to relax.
3. Meanwhile, add dates to the pan juices with 1 tablespoon of water, sauté for 1 minute or until just caramelised.
4. Slice the steak. Divide the sweet mash across four plates, top with steak, dates and a drizzle of yummy pan juices.
