Meet Sab, a Future Leaders Program graduate
Sab, a camp hero.
Sab Hosken has fond memories of attending diabetes camps as a kid, teenager and eventually as a volunteer for Diabetes Camps Victoria.
When they received an expression of interest to apply for the Future Leaders program, Sab jumped at the chance to meet more people their age living with diabetes.
Onto the next stage
The Future Leaders program is delivered by Diabetes Victoria to give young adults living with diabetes an opportunity to connect and share their experiences with like-minded peers who understand them, and gain skills to effectively influence and shape conversations about diabetes.
Sab attended a full day meet and greet experience in the City of Melbourne followed by four online sessions over three months, covering topics such as:
- Mental health first aid
- Diversity and inclusion
- Meaningful engagement with children
- Leadership skills and strengths assessment test
“I would recommend the program to anybody who wants to make connections with peers living with diabetes and learn a few new leadership skills to boost employment opportunities,” Sab says.
Sab now works at Diabetes Victoria as a Diabetes Camps Administration Officer and believes the Future Leaders program helped them find this role, as they had the opportunity to make connections with people and staff from across the organisation.
