Media Releases - 13 July 2022
The campaign is represented by a blue circle logo that was adopted in 2007 after the passage of the UN Resolution on diabetes. The blue circle is the global symbol for diabetes awareness. It signifies the unity of the global diabetes community in response to the diabetes epidemic.
In 2022, the campaign focuses on the need for better access to quality diabetes education for healthcare professionals and people living with diabetes. For Diabetes Victoria we want to take the opportunity of a state election to call on the Victorian government to make people living with or affected by, diabetes the priority.
We ask the Victorian Government to recognise and collaborate on five key priorities to support all Victorians affected by, or at risk of, diabetes. These priorities are based on the lived experiences of over 374,000 people across Victoria who are currently living with diabetes. Add in their families, and we estimate over 1 million Victorians are directly impacted by diabetes every day. Diabetes needs a plan – an ambitious Victorian Diabetes Plan must be focused on the urgent need to improve both the health and quality of life of all Victorians affected by, or at risk of, diabetes.
The focus of World Diabetes Day is to globally call for better access to quality diabetes education and care. Diabetes Victoria is calling on the next Victorian Government to act now to ensure Victorians are able to access quality education and care. Our priority is a Victorian Diabetes Plan to address the growing number of people living with, or affected by, diabetes.
