Diabetes Victoria Clinic is running carb counting workshops for adults with type 1 diabetes in Carlton. Expert diabetes dietitians from Diabetes Victoria Clinic will use real-life examples to teach you practical skills to accurately count carbohydrates.

About the workshop

This full day workshop will help you to:

  • Have flexibility with food choices and meal planning
  • Be more accurate when working out insulin doses for food
  • Keep your glucose levels in target, especially after meals

In our hands-on workshop we will cover:

  • The role of carbohydrates in diabetes
  • Identifying carbohydrate (carb) foods
  • How to work out the carb amount in different foods using food labels, recipes, and carb counting books
  • Hands on practice calculating carb amounts in real foods
  • Tips and tricks for carbohydrate counting while eating out
  • How to manage the effect of fat and protein on your glucose levels
  • Apps, books and websites that will help you master carb counting long-term.

One workshop participant said the workshop helped to “remove my ‘guessing’ and make it more accurate by getting a better understanding of serving sizes“.

This program is suitable for adults with type 1 diabetes and teenagers aged 16 and over (accompanied by an adult) using multiple daily insulin injections or an insulin pump. Please note this workshop does not cover insulin adjustment or the operations and features of insulin pumps and bolus calculators.
