Statement on GlucaGen HypoKit supply
Novo Nordisk has notified the Therapeutic Goods Administration that the GlucaGen HypoKit is currently in a shortage that will last until 30 September 2023.
The GlucaGen HypoKit is used to treat severe hypoglycaemia in people living with diabetes who have become unconscious or are unable to take oral hypo treatments.
This is most likely in people living with type 1 diabetes, however it may also impact a small number of people living with type 2 diabetes who manage the condition using multiple daily injections of insulin.
If you live with or care for someone living with diabetes who is experiencing a severe hypo and is unconscious, call 000 immediately.
Diabetes Victoria is working closely with Diabetes Australia, the diabetes sector and the TGA to ensure people at highest risk are prioritised access to available supply.
The TGA has also activated Section 19A provisions and is arranging imports of HypoKits from other countries.
