Pump start process
When considering pump therapy, getting an overview of what is needed when it comes to your appointments is important. We have summarised your necessary appointments, duration of those appointments and the costs associated with each below.

Pre-pump appointment |
In this appointment we will confirm your pump choice, order the pump and complete all the necessary paperwork. | 60 minutes | $151 ($127 for Diabetes Victoria Members) Medicare rebate with a Team Care Arrangement |
Pump start 1 | This is to officially start the pump. A DNE will set you up with the pump. You will learn how to connect the pump to your body and become familiar with the day-to-day management of the pump. | 4 hours | $500 pump start package (covers 3 appointments) No Medicare rebate |
Pump start 2 | This is to supervise a line change and cover specific topics. | 90 minutes | |
Pump start 3 | This appointment is to review glucose uploads, hypos and hypers, rates and auto corrections etc. | 90 minutes |
A review appointment usually occurs at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks after starting a pump. Additional appointments may be required with the diabetes nurse educator or dietitian to discuss carbohydrate counting, review pump settings and discuss pump settings for events such as exercise.

Pump change 1 |
This is to officially start your new pump and become familiar with the different features of your new pump (and CGM if required). |

Pump change 2 |
This is to supervise a line change (or become familiar with the new infusion set) and cover specific topics. | 90 minutes | |
Pump change 3 | In this appointment your pump settings will be reviewed and adjusted if necessary. | 90 minutes |
A further review appointment usually occurs 4 weeks after changing a pump. Additional appointments may be required with the diabetes nurse educator or dietitian to discuss carbohydrate counting, review pump settings and discuss pump settings for events such as exercise.
