Researchers at Monash Medical Centre want to find out if Carnosine, an over-the-counter food supplement, used to enhance exercise capacity in athletes can also help to improve blood glucose levels, reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease and improve cognitive function as well as identify the metabolic pathways involved. 

This epidemiological study aims to develop ways of identifying those people with type 2 diabetes who are at risk of developing diabetes complications.
