“I’ve just had my one-year pump anniversary,” she says.
“I was able to use a CGM within the first few days after my diagnosis – that helped a lot.
“Dexcom was even better, and it was easier not having to scan.
“Since I’ve had my pump there is less worry and I have better management of my glucose levels.
“The system is intuitive, and the alarm gives me peace of mind.”
Jennifer says she is grateful for subsidised access to diabetes technology.
“I feel very fortunate to live in Australia where we have access to technology and subsidies through the NDSS,” she says.
“I visit Fiji quite a lot and they pay $1 per finger prick, and I know insulin is very expensive in America.
“We are lucky to have the support we do have, and of course private health makes it much easier.
“There is no good time to be diagnosed with diabetes. but you find silver linings – I was very lucky to be diagnosed at this time when this technology exists.
“The subsidies were expanded in July of 2022, and I was diagnosed in October of 2022, so I do feel fortunate.”
