Help Make a Global Impact
Introducing the ACBRD
The ACBRD is the first national research centre worldwide dedicated to investigating the behavioural, psychological and social aspects of living with diabetes. Established in 2010 as a partnership for better health between Diabetes Victoria and Deakin University, the ACBRD has pioneered research in many areas.
The ACBRD has become the world’s leading centre focused on diabetes stigma research. Their research shows that stigma negatively impacts on the health and self-care of people living with all types of diabetes. Diabetes stigma also affects the professional and social opportunities of adults and children living with diabetes.
Recently, the ACBRD led an international consensus on recommendations to end diabetes stigma. The heart of the consensus is the Pledge, which was launched on World Diabetes Day 2023. The Pledge is a commitment to proactively bring an end to diabetes stigma and discrimination.
It has received more than 2,700 signatures from individuals, organisations in more than 100 countries across the world. The ACBRD’s impact is truly impact, and the team is only just getting started.
By becoming a Regular Giver, you will be supporting not only education and advocacy programs, but world-leading research at the ACBRD and in other research centres across Melbourne.
