Documentary explores the history of diabetes camps
In the late ‘40s, diabetes camps provided children with a holiday, good diet and exercise and gave parents and carers a much-needed reprieve from managing their children’s diabetes. 24 children between six and 14 years old attended the very first camp for three weeks at Mt Eliza.
The 30-minute documentary reflects on the history of diabetes camps for children and the continuing tradition.
In partnership with the Royal Children’s and Monash Children’s Hospitals, Diabetes Victoria delivers a number of diabetes camps and one day activities for children aged between four and 17 years old every year.
Camps provide children with an opportunity to meet and compare experiences with other children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes.
A dedicated team of health professionals and volunteers provide supervision and support so campers can enjoy a safe, fun few days and experience independence through adventure.

*Diabetes camps are a life-changing experience for children living with type 1, and we want to deliver them to as many young people as possible. While there is growing demand for overnight camps from our community, the pool of funds is limited. Can you help? DONATE TODAY.
