World Diabetes Day 2024
We aim to empower people to prioritise their wellbeing, their way, with confidence.
Living with diabetes brings unique challenges, whether at home, work, school, or in social settings. It requires resilience, organisation, and constant responsibility. This can have an impact on both physical and mental health.
Diabetes care often leaves many feeling overwhelmed and isolated.
This WDD, we’re breaking down stigma and promoting a holistic approach for those living with diabetes.
Through tailored programs and resources, we aim to help people focus on their wellbeing. This is an essential part of managing diabetes. Together, we will build a future diabetes can do no harm.
Psychology
A psychologist plays a critical role in supporting people with diabetes. They address the psychological and emotional aspects of managing a chronic condition. They also specialise in understanding how mental and emotional factors influence health behaviors.
Advocacy
Diabetes Victoria’s advocacy team understands that there are many things to stay on top of when living with diabetes. We engage with over 1,500 individuals, families, and professionals across Victoria annually. Your stories shape our work and guide our mission.
Peer Support
Diabetes Victoria peer support groups offer a welcoming space to share experiences, gain insights from others and create connections. There are a range of dedicated type 1 and type 2 groups as well as mixed groups, in person and online.

Fletcher
Yarrawonga Mulwala Support Group
“The group has been great for mental health to know that there are so many people in the area with T1 and the knowledge which has been shared in the short time that our group has been together. The reassurance that the way I’m handling my T1D is well. Without the group I wouldn’t be able to keep up to date [with] the latest technology around T1D.”

Diabetes Nurse Educator – HealthAbility Carrington Health Diabetes Support Group
“As a Diabetes Nurse Educator, I joined our workplace Diabetes Support Group (DSG) at the start of 2022. Our DSG meets on a monthly basis and is a wonderful support for individuals with diabetes to obtain support from each other and listen to a presentation. Our group can range from 5-15 participants. Each month we have a special presentation that is related to diabetes and allows each individual to feel motivated to manage their diabetes. Last year we had presentations from myself (Diabetes Educator), the Dietitian and the Exercise Physiologist. We have a lovely group of men and women attend and hope our group can continue well into the future”
