Bright future for leaders of tomorrow
“It was a privilege to meet this group of capable and resilient people,” she says.
“I want to express my deepest thanks to everyone involved in the program for putting your faith and funding in us.”
The program nurtures tomorrow’s leaders by empowering young people (aged between 18 and 22) who live with type 1 diabetes to develop key skills.
This year, the program kicked off with a two-day retreat, bringing together bright young minds for insightful leadership activities.
Online sessions during the following month allowed participants to reconnect and deepen their understanding of the knowledge gained at the retreat.
The online sessions equipped participants with effective communication skills and the tools to have their voices heard, helping them to advocate for themselves and others in healthcare or workplace settings.
Central to the program's success is a mentorship component, allowing participants to hear insight from professionals in diverse fields.
Recognising the power of shared experiences, the retreat was added to the program to create a safe place for participants to meet peers living with Type 1. For some, this was the first time they had ever met someone who understands what they deal
with every day.
Friendships made during the program become a support network which provides encouragement, understanding, and solidarity.
