Werribee diabetes support group celebrates 20 years
Founded in late 1998, the Werribee type 2 diabetes support group recently celebrated two decades of support in the Wyndham area – well done!
To celebrate the commemorative milestone, the group hosted a diabetes information forum at their local community centre last December.
The Werribee diabetes support group was founded by Billy Latte in 1998. The group was established to provide a forum to support people with diabetes, to hear from experts, to share experiences and to be informed of the latest developments in diabetes research.
Since its inception the group has assisted many people in the Wyndham community, helping them to manage their diabetes through diet and exercise. The group has received considerable support from Diabetes Victoria, having provided a number of speakers on a wide range of topics relating to diabetes.
The ‘Living a health life with diabetes’ forum featured speakers presenting on a range of topics including advocacy, food product comparisons, a GP’s experience, and convenor Fairclough spoke about his own personal experience of living with diabetes for more than 20 years.
Diabetes Victoria peer support groups assist people living with diabetes. There are currently around 90 groups connected to the program throughout Victoria.
