A guide to accessing FreeStyle Libre 2

For people living with type 1 diabetes

Since July 2022, FreeStyle Libre 2 has been subsidised for all Australians living with type 1 diabetes, through the NDSS.

A full subsidy is available if you are:

  • Living with type 1 diabetes and aged under 21 years.
  • Living with type 1 diabetes and aged 21 years or older with a valid concessional status.
  • Living with type 1 diabetes and are actively planning pregnancy, pregnant, or immediately post-pregnancy.

A co-payment subsidy is available for all other people living with type 1 diabetes. This means that once you receive subsidised access, each FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor will cost you $15 per box (for 14 days of sensor usage).

To access the subsidy, your authorised healthcare professional will need to submit a form to the NDSS on your behalf.

For people living with type 2 diabetes

FreeStyle Libre 2 is approved for use by people living with type 2 diabetes who require insulin to manage their diabetes.

At this stage, there is no subsidy available for people living with type 2 diabetes. However, we remain committed to advocating for affordable access to glucose monitoring systems.

You can purchase FreeStyle Libre 2 directly via freestylelibre.com.au.

From time to time, special discounts on shipping and other promotional offers may be available.
