Diabetes management tailored to your needs

How do I know if I’m at high risk of developing diabetes?

You might be at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes if you:

  • Have a family history of diabetes
  • Are older than 45
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Are physically inactive
  • Are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, Pacific Island, Indian subcontinent or Chinese descent
  • Have a history of gestational diabetes.

I’m living with diabetes – what should I eat?

Nourishing your body becomes more complicated when you’re also managing your blood sugars. It’s important to speak to a dietitian, who can assess your nutritional needs and review your glucose levels in relation to your food intake, physical activity levels, diabetes medications or insulin.

At the Diabetes Victoria Clinic, you can speak with a dietitian one-on-one. They can help you with carbohydrate counting and work out the right amount of carbohydrate to eat for your meals and snacks.

How do I develop a diabetes management plan?

When you make your first appointment through the Diabetes Victoria Clinic, you will spend 45 minutes with an accredited practising dietitian (APD) and/or a credentialled diabetes educator (CDE), who will provide support and advice tailored to your needs.

While most of our programs and services provide generic diabetes information, the Diabetes Victoria Clinic provides personalised advice on all aspects of diabetes management.
