A year in review for the peer support team

Other highlights of 2022 were:

Recognition at the Volunteering Victoria Awards

This year we’ve had many great opportunities, with our peer support networks being recognised as finalists for the Volunteering Victoria Awards in the category COVID Innovation. Convenors Roslyn Brown and Liz Hare (pictured) attended the event with the peer support team, which identified the innovative practices brought on by COVID-19 and connection.

Future Leaders Program

The new initiative supported young adults with type 1 to develop leadership skills. Providing 16 participants with opportunities to learn leadership skills while connecting with other young people living with diabetes.

Convenor training

Peer support group convenors had the opportunity to attend and participate in training at several points throughout the year. The 2022 session saw convenors discussing their challenges and successes and encouraged networking with other convenors.

New support groups and connections

We’ve had several new groups connect with the network. Passionate people who want to start support networks for those living in Melbourne, Yarrawonga and Warrnambool have created additional connections for those living with or affected by diabetes in their communities. Overall, our peer support convenors have continued supporting connections for those across the state.

To the beautiful convenors that support your communities in whatever capacity, we want to thank you for all your fantastic work.

Diabetes Victoria’s peer support program receives funding from the National Diabetes Services Scheme. The NDSS is an initiative of the Australian Government and is administered by Diabetes Australia. The NDSS Agent in Victoria is Diabetes Victoria.
