VOLTAIRE Study

Investigating the relationship between cardiovascular imaging and genetics on the prevention of cardiovascular disease.

About the study

VOLTAIRE aims to investigate whether providing patients with their cardiovascular imaging and information on their genetics will bring about positive lifestyle and behavioural changes that will improve their cardiovascular health.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading health concern in Australia. Particularly, those with type 2 diabetes face increased risks of heart complications. While embracing a healthy lifestyle, including diet and exercise is pivotal, it is challenging to sustain these changes due to various barriers.

Monash Health is conducting a three-arm, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial evaluating the effect of using cardiac CT imaging or polygenic risk score in cardiovascular risk factor modification in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Who can participate?

  • Aged over 40 years
  • Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes
  • At risk of developing, but are not yet diagnosed with, cardiovascular disease.
